Accrington lost to Nelson for the second week running, this time going down by 47 runs at Seedhill. A 3rd wicket stand of 191 between professional Joe Scuderi, who hit 131, and Paul Garaghty who hit an unbeaten 84, took Nelson to 255-5. Garaghty has hit the Accrington attack for 167 runs in tow matches without being dismissed. Accrington had some early success with Steve Juliff sending back Chris Heap (8) at 16 and Mark Greenhalgh having Peter Pickles (6) caught behind by Mick Wilson at 20. Then came the match winning stand which ended when Scuderi was caught by Bob Collins off Accrington professional Dipak Patel in the 42nd over. Juliff removed Ian Bythell (7) at 233 and Patel sent back Peter Cockell (4) as the overs ran out leaving Marcus Phelan unbeaten on 1 at the close. Skipper Nick Marsh led his sides reply with his first half century of the season. The left hander hit 62, including nine fours, adding 25 with Neil Barnes (17), 36 with Patel (17), 28 with Collins (17) and 57 with Paul Barratt before falling to Cockell (4-80). After adding 32 with Morgan Whipp (25), Barratt (39) and Greenhalgh (0) were dismissed in successive balls by Cockell in the 38th over. Whipp fell to Scuderi at 188 and Mark Demaine (11) fell in identical fashion at 203. Martin Whittle finished unbeaten on 10 and Juliff was unbeaten on 2 at the close with Accrington on 208-8.
